Words i may (over)use.

In editing a new manuscript assortment (how motley motley from my MFA thesis, your poem-requests, and my poem-a-day project)— i realized i use some words truly frequently (at least in this collection):

champagne
skeletal
specter/spectre
ghoul
“red & black” (replaced one w. ‘coal ruby’)
spirals

The spiraling specter of champagne-skulled skeletal ghouls red red and blackening the champagne room with the carpet spirarling out of control vines with the ghouls serving yet more red champagne?

#wordnerd-ing & new jew revue

Wordsmith.org word of the day: enfant terrible

PRONUNCIATION:
(ahn*-fahn* te-REE-bluh)
[* these syllables are nasal]
plural enfants terribles (ahn*-fahn* te-REE-bluh)

MEANING:
noun: A person, especially someone famous or successful, whose unconventional lifestyle, work, or behavior appears shocking.

ETYMOLOGY:
From French enfant terrible (terrible child).

USAGE:
“Once an enfant terrible, who as a young filmmaker challenged censors and outraged conservative critics, Koji Wakamatsu has not mellowed so much as ripened.” -Mark Schilling; All’s Unfair in Love and War; The Japan Times (Tokyo); Aug 13, 2010.

synchronicities! i’d just written this descriptive blurb for that no-good vaude-villian “the burlesque poetess” who alongside/in addit’ to the tiny instruments is going to participate in Truth Serum’s “New Jew Revue” 10/17. so yes, my blurb included a phrase i’ve never properly used before, but seemed to fit. and lo and behold a few days later it is the word of the day! i feel erudite. or like an erudetritus collector. anyhoo, enjoy our PR blurbs. i have fun writing them. i may (i hear tell) be doing some wordsmiffy-ing for the TOys soon, too…

jojo, The Burlesque Poetess
Known for “accidental fanny flashing” (Boston Globe), naughty verse in her knickers and $1 stripping sonnets, the “erudetritus”-collecting comedienne/enfant terrible will be “Burlesque Jewess-ing” with tales of Hebrew school trauma and poems on speaking “Frebrewlais!”

Meff ‘n’ jojo’s Tiny Instrument Revue
Retrosexual renegades from the “stage shtetl” of the Army of Broken Toys banter like Muppets over Pesach memories, renditions of Ukulele Ike songs rife with “euphemnuendo,” vaudevillian interpretations of glam rock, and original musical delinquency.

(come straight to the tumble to see extra/accompanying lit-gasm zine-innard illustration of cubist fauxrotica. faux-cubist eroticverse?) on-the-spot poem i wrote for @lyzardly at the SoHo Yogaworks army of toys show last-last sat. in my victorian steam-crunk powered automaton handwriting! …she asked that if the zine didn’t already include an appropriate piece about reading in bed *eyebrow waggle* — so yes, glimpselet of my original niblet zinelets i sell as the only copies thereof of a selection of themed poetry and (sexy)’llustrations. the greatest compliment i’ve yet to receive as a bur-lesque poetess was that @lyzardly and looovah are reading this poem to each other as literary foreplay! my heart! my quivering quill! and from the same festive eve, an on-the-spot ($1) poem i wrote for @stallionbreaker comin’ up soon, aussi ;)
